Be mindful and keep kindness close to your heart and within your daily awareness.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the negativity around you. Especially when you're an empath, highly-sensitive person (HSP), or you're generally someone who cares a great deal about the energy and vibration of Mother Earth and all her inhabitants.
The endless rounds of news cycles, the social media that fuels anger and outrage, and the constant focus on what's not working vs. the change that we can all be contributing to can leave us feeling hopeless. Sometimes we might even feel that our intrinsic resources, like: possibility, potentials, hopefulness, and motivation have been drained.
However, you can push back against that tide of anxiety, helplessness or even some levels of depression by practicing kindness and compassion.
If this sounds like wishful thinking, consider that the latest research shows that kindness has a physical effect on your brain, making you happier, more relaxed, and increases your levels of resilience when dealing with the stressors around you.
Here are 5 ways you can create your own center of positivity and inspire others as well.
1. RECOGNIZE KINDNESS
Work out what kindness means to you. I believe the best way to do this is to "journal it".
Every morning, as part of my business practice, I write my "morning pages". (full credit to Julia Cameron's amazing book The Artist's Way.) Kindness is something I write about and explore in my Morning Pages. I continue to gain clarity on my definition of kindness inside the feminine business model that is being birthed through me.
Really think about your experience and feelings about kindness. How does it manifest for you?
Try writing down three examples of kindness that you have had in your life where someone helped you, showed you compassion, or concern for another.
Working out what kindness looks like and how it feels, attunes you to kindness in the world and prepares you to offer kindness when the opportunity arises.
2. RESOLVE TO BE KIND EVERY DAY
Make a daily commitment to grow a kindness practice.
Add kindness as one of your core business values. As your business grows and you're presented with new possibilities, clients, conflict, or anything else, filter your response through this core value. It's an excellent way to gauge whether your idea, acceptance or denial of an opportunity, or way of responding to conflict is aligned with your kindness core value.
One great way to grow your kindness practice, is to think of one kind thing you can do for yourself every day.
This will help you shift your mindset towards positivity and self-care. It will help you choose kindness, faith, and understanding, and reject fear, anger, and apathy.
3. RECOGNIZE KINDNESS IN OTHERS
Acknowledging other people’s kindness will also help you grow a kindness mindset.
Noticing and appreciating what others do for you builds little bridges of positivity and enhances your interpersonal relationships. Say thank you, tell someone you appreciate them, and that you see their kindness and love them for it.
4. KEEP A COMPASSION JOURNAL
You’ve probably heard about gratitude journaling, and it’s a great way to acknowledge and be thankful for your blessings.
You can also keep a compassion journal where you write about whatever challenging situation you’re facing and reflect on it from a place of compassion and kindness. If a friend were facing this problem, what would you say to them?
Writing down your problems with intention and compassion helps to give you new insights and solutions.
5. BUILD A CIRCLE OF KINDNESS
Sometimes the worst part of being in a dark place is feeling completely alone.
You can help by building a circle of connection and kindness with friends and family. Definitely bring entrepreneur friends into your circle. They understand what you're going through and can offer kindness during entrepreneur struggles and disappointments. Others may fall short because they don't understand the entrepreneur life, so having support in the area of business and living a life on purpose, is essential.
Create a map of all the people you know and care for. Start with those you’re closest to and build up a network of caring you’re connected to.
Think of who you can support or be kind to right now.
This will be the beginning of your circle of kindness as you give and receive care and connection.
