Decide How You Want to Spend Your Working Time

By  Melissa Etherton

Over the last two days I've given you two  lists: 1) 25 Things You Can Automate in Your Lifestyle Business Now, and 2) 8 Areas Where Outsourcing Creates Lifestyle Freedom to give you a peak behind what makes a lifestyle business run (almost) by itself -- which is our ultimate goal, right?

And now that you have the vision of your perfect day, you've written your boundary statements, and you know your financial needs & stretch goals, it's time to explore what offers you can create that builds on these foundations of your lifestyle-business.

Over the next few days we're going to be diving in deeper into our potential offers, as well as, a great crash course in "passive income." Then we'll be wrapping it up with how automation helps us keep our business running (almost) on it's own, attracting new customers, and scaling into a business that supports our lifestyle.

We'll be tying it all together and as long as you've been following along, you will have a clear plan of what your next steps are once this event is complete.

Start with how you want to spend your working time

Before you get too deep into building your offer, think about what you want your lifestyle to be. How do you see yourself spending your days? Lifestyle planning is one of the most important things you can do for yourself because working for yourself can quickly feel like "a job" (where you work A TON more hours) if you’re not careful.

Remember, as you build your business think about how you want to spend your working time. To help you brainstorm through the questions in the next section, click the button below to download the PDF.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you want to spend a lot of time one-on-one with your soulmate clients, coaching and consulting with them in person or online? – Some people feel most productive when they are coaching and consulting with people one at a time, and others prefer to organize things with technology and automation to focus on an entire group. Or you can pick both.
  • Do you want to be flexible with your schedule and work on written content or pre-recorded video content instead of doing it live? – You can build this business totally behind the scenes without focusing on yourself by creating written content and pre-recorded videos around your topic, instead of your face appearing on camera.
  • Do you like the idea of being in the public eye, or do you prefer to be in the background? – Not everyone wants to be the face of their business. You can be an expert without being the face and without having to be in the public eye.
  • Do you want to travel and speak across the country? – This is fantastic if it calls to you. Somewhere deep down, do you know that you're meant to speak in front of large groups or host group retreats? Some people love traveling and speaking. If this is you, go all in right now by getting amazing headshots, branding your business with more pictures of you in action, and putting yourself forward as a speaker and expert.
  • Do you want to go work long hours with a company consulting them on your area of expertise before taking a couple of months off? – Some people don’t want to work 365 days a year. It’s totally possible to do that as a consultant that works with one company at a time at a high price and then takes time off between projects. This happens a lot with new marketing campaigns for products and personal brand business offers.
  • What do you see yourself doing when you’re not working? – How you want to spend your downtime is important, too. Will you generate enough funds to live your best life when you aren’t working? What about time? How can you align your offer(s) with the lifestyle you want to live? Reflect on your previous notes to remember what your goals are.
  • Are there potential roadblocks to getting what you want? – It’s time to be super realistic about your and your situation. What barriers can get in your way? List them now so that you can create a solutions plan. For example, if you want to write a book and publish it, but you have an infant, what is your plan to do it anyway?

Now you see why it's important to know your boundaries, income needs, your perfect day, and your working time plan BEFORE you create your offers.

Any time you're about to create a new offer, say 'yes' to an opportunity, partner with someone, or become an affiliate for someone else's offer, begin with reminding yourself of your vision and presence your lifestyle-business dreams.

Make sure all of your business decisions are filtered through and aligned with everything you're creating here. AND remember, this is all adjustable. As you learn to navigate this new way of designing a business, it's okay and normal to course correct as you go. Try new things and see if it's a good fit for you. If it is, keep it as part of your business model. It it's not, leave it behind.

The things you're creating here do not need to stick. This is an opportunity to begin to pivot toward your north star and as you grow, your needs will change, and so will your business.

Your business will continue to evolve and shape itself around your lifestyle needs and desires, as long as YOU stay connected to what you want and need.

Please share in the Facebook group what you've learned about yourself and your business. I will be in the Facebook group every day to answer your questions and support your growth.

Till tomorrow,
Be brilliant.
Be imperfect.
And always, be you.

Melissa
